Uncertainties persist regarding the precise chronology of the earliest farming villages and the extent of genetic continuity across the Neolithic–Bronze Age transition, but the cumulative archaeological and genetic record affirms Syria’s enduring importance as a crossroads where fundamental innovations in subsistence, writing, and urban life first took hold.
